Reliability Projects

SWEPCO continually identifies projects that will improve the reliability and resiliency of the power grid. Each project is customer-focused and designed to provide a higher level of service through new technology, system upgrades, and innovations to the power grid.

Learn about some of SWEPCO’s current projects in:

Fouke

In 2022, SWEPCO began repairing and replacing aged and/or damaged facilities within the Pleasant Hill circuit. The $860,000 investment includes the purchase and clearing of damaged sections of right of way areas as well as repairs to the circuit in the existing right of way.

DeQueen

In late 2022, SWEPCO will begin the first part of a three-phase project to rebuild a circuit in south DeQueen so it can accommodate greater load capacity as the city grows. The initial phase, with a $1 million investment, will reroute the circuit’s main line to the begin near our substation on Rockerfellow Street. It will then continue north to the intersection of State Highway 71 and Brown Street. Subsequent phases will continue the circuit north to Gilham.

Stonewall

Over the past few years, SWEPCO has converted several hundred Stonewall area customers on a legacy circuit to a newer one. In late 2022, SWEPCO will continue those efforts with a series of projects estimated at $10 million to convert more than 500 customers along the Stonewall Frierson Road and Highway 171 corridors to a more reliable circuit. In addition, SWEPCO will begin a $23.6 million project in 2022 to rebuild Kingston substation and the transmission line that feeds it, bringing reliability improvements to the customers served out of the Kingston substation.

Henderson, Texas

In early 2022, SWEPCO began a $2.6 million project to improve power reliability in Henderson. The project includes replacing poles and upgrading wire along State Highway 64. Work started at the intersection of State Highway 64 and North Frisco Street and will continue west for six miles. The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
