Charitable Giving

Aep Foundation

The American Electric Power Foundation is funded by American Electric Power and its operating subsidiaries, including SWEPCO. The Foundation provides a permanent, ongoing resource for charitable initiatives involving higher dollar values and multi-year commitments in the communities served by AEP and initiatives outside of AEP's 11-state service area.

The Foundation focuses on improving lives through education from early childhood through higher education in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math and by meeting basic needs for emergency shelter, affordable housing and the elimination of hunger. Other foundation support may be offered to protect the environment, support healthcare and safety, and enrich life through art, music and cultural heritage.

BREMCO/SWEPCO SCHOLARSHIPS TO BPCC

The BREMCO/SWEPCO Legacy Scholarship Fund was established in 2016 for full-time students of Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC). Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell announced the fund of up to $600,000 honoring the Bossier Rural Electric Membership Corporation (BREMCO) and its 55 years of service in Northwest Louisiana. SWEPCO dedicated $300,000 in remaining BREMCO capital credits, and BPCC identified $300,000 in matching funds. SWEPCO purchased BREMCO in 1993, and presented $645,000 in scholarships to former BREMCO members and their heirs under the original program. "Investing these remaining BREMCO funds to create scholarships for young people attending BPCC is a fitting way to carry on that tradition," Campbell said.

Scholarship applicants (full-time students with 2.0 GPA) may apply for the annual BREMCO/SWEPCO Legacy Scholarships through the BPCC Foundation at bpccfoundation.org/scholarships. For more information, contact the BPCC Foundation Director at srogers@bpcc.edu. For SWEPCO questions, contact BREMCO@aep.com
