Middle-school students at three Caddo Parish schools soon will have cyber curriculum thanks to a $15,000 grant from the American Electric Power Foundation.
Southwestern Electric Power Company, on behalf of the AEP Foundation, recently presented the grant to CYBER.ORG to support cyber curriculum at Turner Elementary/Middle, Keithville Elementary/Middle and Broadmoor STEM Academy. In addition, the grant also will allow CYBER.ORG – the academic initiative of the Cyber Innovation Center – to provide all three schools with technical assistance and professional development. All three middle schools will introduce at least one full year of CYBER.ORG content.
“This is a hands-on curriculum that builds a strong foundation for further exploration into STEM and cyber related topics,” said CYBER.ORG Director of Academic Outreach Georgette Price. “The goal of this project is to help prepare students to go into cybersecurity related college and careers.”
SWEPCO External Affairs Manager Michael Corbin said programs like these enable students to gain foundational and technical cybersecurity knowledge and skills.
“We’re proud to help support programs that are preparing the next generation to succeed in the cyber workforce of tomorrow,” Corbin said.
