December 20, 2021

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark., Dec. 20, 2021 – The American Electric Power Foundation recently awarded a total of $15,000 to four Northwest Arkansas nonprofits in Southwestern Electric Power Co.’s service area.

Grant dollars will aid organizations in improving the lives of area residents through education, health care, community programs and the elimination of hunger.

“The AEP Foundation and SWEPCO believe investing in charitable initiatives is the cornerstone to providing brighter futures for our communities,” said SWEPCO External Affairs and Government Affairs Manager in Fayetteville Bradley Hardin. “We are proud to support these organizations that make such an impact in Northwest Arkansas.”

Organizations receiving funds include:

  • Habitat for Humanity of Benton County, $4,000. The funds will be used to pay for the footing and stem walls of a 1,200 square foot home for a single mother of three who has been on the organization’s waitlist for three years. The house is located in Rogers, Ark.
  • Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County, $4,000. The funds will be used to provide services such as forensic interviews and medical exams, mental health and education to child abuse victims and their families.
  • Northsong Wild Bird Rehabilitation, $3,000. The funds will be used to provide free medical care to injured avian wildlife, such as hawks, bald eagles and owls.
  • Northwest Arkansas Food Bank, $4,000. The funds will be used to purchase food to support the school pantry program. The program provides free food assistance to families and children at 16 local schools.

The AEP Foundation provides a permanent, ongoing resource for charitable initiatives involving high dollar values and multi-year commitments in the communities served by AEP and initiatives outside of AEP’s 11-state service area.
