As of 2:30 p.m., approximately 13,000 customers remain without power following an overnight storm in the Fayetteville area. Crews continue to work safely and quickly to restore power after the winter storm dumped between 4 and 8 inches of snow across the region. Outages are primarily due to wet snow weighing down tree limbs that have interfered with power lines.
At peak, more than 21,600 customers were without power between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The estimated time of restoration for 95% of customers is 10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26. It is an estimate for the entire region and power may be restored sooner in some cases.
SWEPCO has more than 200 resources dedicated to storm restoration. This includes resources dispatched from Texarkana and our sister company, Public Service of Oklahoma (PSO), to assist with tree trimming.
Safety Reminders
Downed power lines - Never touch a downed line, or go near it, no matter how harmless it looks. The line could be energized. Don’t touch anything in contact with the line, such as trees, fences or puddles of water. Stay away and keep all people and pets away. Call SWEPCO or 911 immediately.
Portable generator safety – If you use a portable or RV generator, do not plug the generator into your circuit box. Portable generators can "backfeed" electricity up the line and risk the lives of repair workers and the public. Follow the manufacturers' instructions carefully and plug essential appliances directly into the generator.
