Crews deployed across Ark-La-Tex following extreme weekend storms

September 25, 2023

This weekend, unstable air across SWEPCO’s service territory from north Arkansas and south to Texarkana, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana brought extreme storms to the area and disrupted power to customers.

Mid-day reports show work continues to restore power to the hardest hit areas as crews work to repower approximately 11,310 customers.

A strong thunderstorm early Sunday delivered tumultuous weather in the Texarkana area and impacted service to customers in that region before moving south where extreme weather included two significant blasts in north Louisiana that compounded the overnight outage problem.

In fact, around 9 p.m., a powerful storm fired up over the Benton, Louisiana area and moved southeast toward Stockwell, Haughton and Dogwood South areas.

The extreme weather brought sustained winds in excess of 65 mph, as recorded at the Shreveport Regional Airport. The strong winds and powerful storms ensnarled lines and disrupted power to thousands of regional customers.

At peak, more than 32,391 customers across the Ark-La-Tex were without power.

Estimated times of restoration for 95% of customers by location:

  • Longview area – 4 p.m. today, Sept.  25
  • Bossier, Vivian and Plain Dealing areas - 10:00 p.m. today, Sept. 25 **EXCEPTION: Dogwood subdivision, which will be noon Tuesday, Sept. 26
  • Shreveport – 10:00 p.m. today, Sept. 25   **EXCEPTION: Powell and Summer Grove neighborhoods will be noon Sept. 26

NOTE: If you get a text alert that your power is back on, but you're still without power, report your outage by replying OUT to that text message.
