Imagine a payment option that works with your schedule, your budget, and your lifestyle. SWEPCO’s new Pay As You Go program is designed to do just that -gives customers more flexibility, transparency, and control over their energy costs.
In a recent Ways to Save segment, Customer Services Manager Todd Nottingham details how this innovative program works and why it could be a game-changer for many households.
Pay As You Go is a prepaid energy program that allows customers to pay for electricity in smaller, more manageable amounts throughout the month rather than receiving a traditional monthly bill.
“It’s ideal for those who want to stay on top of their energy usage or need a more flexible way to manage their budget,” Nottingham said.
One of the most powerful features of Pay As You Go is its support for customers who may be behind on their bills. When enrolled, 20% of each payment goes toward reducing any past due balance (up to $1,500), while 80% covers current usage. This means customers can keep their service active while gradually paying down what they owe.
“It’s great for our customers because it allows them to stay ahead of their electricity usage,” he said.
Nottingham highlighted several advantages of the program:
- Budget Control: Make payments as needed, avoiding large monthly bills.
- Stay Connected: Continue receiving electricity while paying off past balances.
- No Deposits or Credit Checks: Enrollment is simple and accessible.
- Flexible Payment Options: Pay online or in person—whenever it works for you.
- Daily Usage Alerts: Receive texts or emails with your current balance and usage.
Thanks to the installation of smart meters, SWEPCO now offers real-time updates and usage tracking, making Pay As You Go possible. This technology enables SWEPCO to offer prepay and can further help customers make informed decisions about their energy consumption.
