SWEPCO earned two 2022 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Awards for the achievements of its residential energy efficiency programs that are available to its customers in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas.
ENERGY STAR is backed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy and has become a symbol for energy efficiency, providing simple, credible and unbiased information that consumers and businesses rely on to make well-informed decisions.
Each year, the ENERGY STAR program honors a group of businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy achievements. In the utility space and in SWEPCO’s case, ENERGY STAR award winners have demonstrated leadership and best practices in implementing energy efficiency programs that incorporate ENERGY STAR as a key strategy for the benefit of their customers and communities.
The highest honor among ENERGY STAR Awards is the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year—Sustained Excellence Award, which is presented to partners that have already received ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year recognition for a minimum of two consecutive years and have gone above and beyond the criteria needed to qualify for recognition.
In Arkansas, SWEPCO received ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for the eighth consecutive year and the Sustained Excellence award for the sixth consecutive year in recognition of the team’s ongoing efforts to promote and deliver the Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program. Through this program, SWEPCO improved the energy efficiency of 1,669 single-family and 1,063 multifamily homes at no cost to the homeowners. SWEPCO-approved contractors conducted energy assessments on each of these homes and based on the findings, provided attic insulation, air and duct sealing, LED bulbs and more! These energy efficiency home improvements will help customers save nearly 8 gigawatt-hours of energy each year, which is the equivalent to removing nearly 1,300 passenger cars from the road for a year or avoiding 14.7 million miles driven.
In Louisiana and Texas, SWEPCO received ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for the second year in a row in recognition of its Weatherization Program, HVAC Incentive Program and Efficient Products Rebates that promote the widespread adoption of ENERGY STAR products and best practices. ENERGY STAR-certified products installed in Louisiana and Texas customer homes in 2021 include 417 high efficiency air-source heat pumps, 376 smart thermostats, 29 air purifiers, 24 pool pumps and 23 Level 2 electric vehicle charging stations. These energy efficient technologies along with other energy efficiency measures will help customers save more than 8.4 gigawatt-hours of energy a year, which is the equivalent to removing 1,295 passenger cars from the road for a year or avoiding 14.9 million miles driven.
