James Bass

Vice President of Finance

James Bass serves as SWEPCO's Vice President of Finance, where he leads the company's financial organization and is responsible for financial planning, performance management, and aligning financial strategy with operational and corporate priorities. In this role, he also oversees lignite mining activities — including land management, permitting, environmental compliance and mine reclamation — and directs workplace services, which encompasses management of all buildings and facilities.

With nearly three decades of experience at the company, Bass brings a deep, enterprise-wide understanding of the business. He began his career as a call center representative and advanced through a wide range of roles, including time entry clerk, engineering technician, distribution line specialist, and reliability manager. He also held key leadership roles in planning and analysis, including supporting operations at Dolet Hills Lignite Company.

Prior to his current role, James served as Director of Business Operations Support, where he played a central role in advancing financial performance, strengthening cross-functional alignment, and leading strategic initiatives that support long-term growth.

Bass earned a Bachelor of Science in Management from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Business Administration from Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport.
