SWEPCO Enhances Lake Welsh Access with Major Boat Ramp Improvements

July 14, 2025

Lake Welsh boaters will soon have a new and improved boating experience as SWEPCO undertakes upgrades.

PITTSBURG, Texas – July 14, 2025 – Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) is investing in significant upgrades to the public boat ramp located near its power plant at Lake Welsh, reinforcing its commitment to community enrichment and environmental stewardship.

Beginning July 21, weather permitting, SWEPCO will launch a two-week project to repair and improve the lake’s only public boat access point. The work will include upgrades to the boat ramp, adjacent roads, and the parking area to ensure safer, more accessible recreational opportunities for all visitors.

“For many years, Lake Welsh has provided enjoyment to so many of our friends and neighbors,” said Welsh Power Plant Manager Andrew Brannan. “This work will ensure safer and more accessible recreational opportunities for all visitors.”

As part of the initiative, the boat ramp and adjacent roads and parking lot will be temporarily closed for a period of two weeks to facilitate the necessary repairs.

SWEPCO is collaborating with Titus County Precinct #4 to ensure that the improvements are completed safely, efficiently and effectively.

"SWEPCO is committed to the communities we serve, and we recognize the importance of maintaining Lake Welsh as a multi-use resource," said Michael Brice, Environmental & Lab Supervisor at Welsh Power Plant. "This investment not only enhances public access to the lake but also reinforces our dedication to ensuring that the environment coexists harmoniously alongside our power generation facilities."

While the repairs are unrelated to plant operations, this effort at Lake Welsh is focused solely on improving public access and reflect SWEPCO's broader commitment to environmental and community stewardship. The lake has served as a valuable recreational area for many years, and as the controlling authority, SWEPCO takes pride in maintaining the safety and accessibility of this cherished resource.

During the construction period, boaters and visitors are advised to plan accordingly, as the boat ramp will be inaccessible. SWEPCO appreciates the community's patience and support as they work to enhance the facilities at Lake Welsh.

In tandem with this project, SWEPCO is also undertaking similar efforts at its Arkansas-based Turk Power Plant with work to stabilize its underground water intake system at the Little River.
