SWEPCO and NLTCC Team Up to Power Northwest Louisiana’s Growth

October 30, 2025

Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) continues to support economic development in Northwest Louisiana through its ongoing partnership with Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College (NLTCC).

This year, the SWEPCO Foundation provided $15,000 to NLTCC to help strengthen programs that connect students with career opportunities and support the region’s long-term growth. The donation is part of a broader effort by SWEPCO to work alongside local institutions that are helping shape the future of the workforce and economy in the communities it serves.

“Our relationship with NLTCC is about more than just workforce training—it’s about building something lasting for Northwest Louisiana,” said William Bradford, Vice President of External Affairs at SWEPCO. “When we invest in education and local partnerships, we’re helping lay the groundwork for economic growth that benefits everyone.”

SWEPCO will continue to build partnerships that inspire the workforce to embrace the future and help shape the community for the opportunities to come. “We’re at a once-in-a-generation moment to transform our industry,” Bradford added. “That’s why partnerships like the one with NLTCC are so important. They help ensure we’re building a workforce that’s not only ready for today’s challenges but prepared to lead our communities into the future.”

For years, SWEPCO and NLTCC have worked together to create opportunities for students through internships, technical training, and industry-informed curriculum. One example is the Lineworker Certification Program, which gives students hands-on experience and a pathway into the utility industry. While still growing, the program reflects the kind of forward-thinking collaboration that helps prepare the region for future success.

SWEPCO’s commitment to education and workforce development was recently recognized when Michael Corbin, External Affairs Manager at SWEPCO, received the Joe D. May Public Policy Award from the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS). The award recognizes individuals who have gone above and beyond to support education and workforce development across the state.

SWEPCO will continue to build stronger communities through strategic partnerships and proactive engagement. By working closely with institutions like NLTCC, SWEPCO continues to bridge the gap between education, industry, and local needs—ensuring students are equipped with the skills and opportunities necessary to thrive in today’s workforce.

Dr. Jayda Spillers, Chancellor of NLTCC, said the college values SWEPCO’s support and the shared commitment to regional progress. “SWEPCO understands the importance of investing in people and places. Their partnership helps us stay aligned with what our students and our communities need to succeed.”

SWEPCO believes that investing in education is essential to community growth and remains committed to building strong relationships with trade schools and colleges across the region. Through support for technical training programs, advocacy for workforce development policies, and collaboration with local leaders, SWEPCO continues to create pathways into skilled careers and drive economic progress throughout the communities it serves.
