SWEPCO Earns 2020 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence

March 31, 2020

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (March 31, 2020) – Southwestern Electric Power Co. (SWEPCO) has been named a 2020 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence Award winner for one of the company’s energy efficiency programs in Arkansas.

This is the sixth consecutive year SWEPCO has received ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year recognition – and the fourth consecutive year for Sustained Excellence.

The 2020 award is for Energy Efficiency Program Delivery, Home Performance with ENERGY STAR. SWEPCO’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program promotes the use of ENERGY STAR-certified products and technologies that help improve a home’s energy efficiency and comfort.

ENERGY STAR awards are presented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.

“I salute the 2020 ENERGY STAR award winners,” said Anne Idsal, EPA Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation. “These leaders demonstrate how energy efficiency drives economic competitiveness in tandem with environmental protection.”

The Sustained Excellence Award is the highest honor among ENERGY STAR Awards. It is presented to partners that have already received ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year recognition for a minimum of two consecutive years and have gone above and beyond the criteria needed to qualify for recognition.

The award recognizes accomplishments in 2019, when SWEPCO completed 1,765 single-family and 1,728 multifamily projects in the Home Performance with ENERY STAR program, saving approximately 10.4 gigawatt-hours in energy. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), this savings is equivalent to removing 1,569 vehicles from the road for a full year, or 18 million miles driven. SWEPCO also implemented a joint Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program with Black Hills Energy Arkansas (BHEA), resulting in the completion of 340 joint projects.

“The ENERGY STAR award highlights the value of SWEPCO’s no-cost energy efficiency program that continues to evolve and grow year over year to the benefit of Arkansas residential customers,” said Sherry McCormack, Energy Efficiency and Consumer Programs Manager for SWEPCO in Arkansas. “We appreciate this recognition for SWEPCO’s staff, the implementation team from CLEAResult, and the network of contractors who work every day to help customers improve the comfort and energy efficiency of their homes. We know that now, more than ever, energy efficiency and savings matter to customers,” McCormack said.

SWEPCO has been a Home Performance with ENERGY STAR partner since 2012.
