Higher Bill Help

Why is my bill higher?

There are two main reasons your bill might be higher than usual:

  • Increased energy usage – When outdoor temperatures are at an extreme, more energy use is required to power air conditioning and heating systems to maintain indoor temperatures. For the months with unusually hot or cold weather, you may see higher electric bills.
  • Increased fuel costs – The fuel portion of your bill includes the cost of fuel to generate electricity and the cost of purchased power. The "fuel factor" used to calculate this part of the bill is adjusted periodically to make sure you pay only SWEPCO's actual fuel costs, which are a direct pass-through to customers.

You can compare your current kWh usage to the same month a year ago with information displayed on your bill or by using the SWEPCO mobile app.
