Wilkes Power Plant Hosts Trail Life USA and American Heritage Girls for Overnight Campout at Recreation Area

November 18, 2025

Wilkes Power Plant recently brought together area boys and girls for a weekend of camping, team-building and faith-based programming at its private recreation area on Johnson Creek Reservoir.

Wilkes Power Plant recently hosted an overnight camping event at its private recreation area on Johnson Creek Reservoir for members of Trail Life USA and the American Heritage Girls, two faith-based youth organizations focused on character development and outdoor experiences.

The event brought together boys and girls for a weekend of camping, team-building activities, and faith-based programming along the banks of Johnson Creek Reservoir in Marion County, Texas. Trail Life USA is a Christian outdoor program for boys that emphasizes leadership, service, and adventure. American Heritage Girls offers a similar experience for girls, with a focus on spiritual growth, service, and skill development.

Participants took part in group activities, shared meals, and spent time in nature, all while building relationships and learning new skills.

Pete Civitarese, plant manager at Wilkes, said the event was a positive experience for everyone involved.

"It was encouraging to see these young people engaging with each other in such a meaningful way,” Civitarese said. “We’re proud to support organizations that help build character and community.”

Engineer Andrew Richards, who coordinated camp out activities with Senior Administrator Alice Cogburn, described it as a huge success.

“We had a great turnout, and the atmosphere was incredible,” he said. “Every parent and child I saw was engaged and enjoying themselves.”

Wilkes Power Plant employees thank the leaders and families of both organizations for their participation and look forward to future opportunities to host similar events.
